This post will be a summary of what we have done so far. Please add to it as necessary. The second one (which will be tomorrow or Thursday) will discuss what needs done next. Please, please add to that one also.

We have discussed the format of the show. (Basically second service, with an open, part of the service, ministry highlight, more of service, wrap up with Pastor Steve, and close)

We have discussed our show with Access Fort Wayne. They were encouraging us to get going, even with one camera. They liked what we had in mind to make it more than a church service.

I went to camcorder training, so now I can borrow some of their eqiupment. It does not sound like that will be terrilby helpful, though.

We have added a second sound board, that has been fed directly into a camera. We have done some tests with it, trying out the added congregation mics, then adding back in the platform mics.

We have adjusted the lighting (and, don't panic, will adjust again).

What am I forgetting?

Thanks,
Doug

Group meeting

We need to have a group meeting sometime soon, so we can see what is and isn't working so far. Below are the results of that meeting. Jon, please correct or add anything I messed/missed. Everyone else, please give your thoughts/ concerns.

The main thrust of the meeting was 'yes, Larry is right. Let's get going and 'fix' it later. What do we need to do to make this happen in some form?'

Sunday, June 18 test:
Audio:
Next Friday afternoon at 3pm, Jon and I are going to add a couple congregation mics and split the wireless mic so it is getting sent to two separate places. Our audio discussion envisions the tv audio board getting a direct feed of the wireless mic and 3 house mics (the current parabolic plus 2 more). Then there would be a feed from the current audio board of the worship team and audio from media shout. This allows separate control of the main mic, group singing sound (as opposed to the leader sounding like he is singing a solo), and 1 source for the other audio (as opposed to splitting all the audio sources).

Lighting:
Next Friday we will also mess with the lighting. We will start with killing the eliptical lights and use the others for more even lighting over the whole stage area.

Camera:
We will also set up a camera (perhaps two, if we borrow one). We will record straight to camera(s), with the above-mentioned audio coming from the board into the camera.

Note:
The Sunday Test comment above is that these will be used and recorded on Sunday. This will be second service on Father's Day. Jon is running audio that service. I can not be there. It would be nice to have a camera operator, if someone is available.

======

Other thoughts:
-I meet with Access FW on Wednesday.
-We have discussed having a short vignette as part of the program that highlights a ministry. Jon would like to see a DVD that has a welcome, then about 5 of those vignettes. This could be delivered to a number of people in the neighborhood.
-Doug will send a report to the deacons this month, then hopefully meet with them next month. At that time, thanks to our tests and meeting with Access FW, we will have a better idea of what we need now.

Besides the note about wanting a camera operator for next Sunday, if anyone is available and wants to come help Friday at 3, you are welcome. I don't think there will be a bunch to do, but you are more than welcome.

Thanks for reading through all this. Let us know what thoughts you have.

Doug

Show Title Choices

Here are the top picks for a title for the show. He has helped 7-8 other churches start up. That's his ministry. Professionally, he runs a video production company in healthcare. We talked with him for about an hour today.

Getting Started
If the content is interesting and people can hear it well, get started. Even if you are doing one camera. The most important thing is to get going rather than waiting for everything to be perfect. And the most important thing for video ... is the audio.

Cameras
Don't use tube cameras, they take too much maintenance and adapters. You can, however, START with consumer level cameras, as long as you can get good audio.

Camera Controls
VariZoom makes aftermarket controls for cameras, including the Panasonic DVC 30, which is a $1000 camera. The key is that they have a LANC jack.

Audio
1. The xlr=>mini phone cable from Beachtek can get the audio into a consumer camera with attenuation to take care of the auto gain.
2. Come out of the board with a clean signal.

Switching
Larry has a 2 camera switcher/sync-generator which can have two consumer cameras come in using S-video and then can be sent out to a recorder of some sort.

Music
When we tape the choir singing as part of the service, for example, that is just taping an event and we don't need to worry about copyright clearances. When we tape a performance, a choir cantata, for example, then Larry gets permission from the publisher. For those times, Ellie Keller is the person to call with phone numbers and other information.

Communication
Use $50 Radio Shack wireless headsets.

Control Room
Put the switcher out of the Sanctuary.

Length
They ran for 30 minutes for 17 years, and a couple years ago went to an hour. Because the program actually runs a little short of that, they fill with music. We could also fill with a bulletin board of what is coming, a ministry calendar up to whatever the length is (59:30 or whatever - Doug, do you know?)

Impact
Between years 2-3 is when you start to hear that people are watching. That gives time to upgrade the video end of the production.

Doug - what format does the tape have to be for the station? On DVD? on VHS? They are Panasonic 200 CLE models going for $800 ea.(not an auction) They are listed at www.bstock.com . You need to look in the camera section and the stock # is 5851. This site is a consignment type of place. With bstock you can have the item for 48hrs after purchase to check them out before money is sent to the item owner. So you can send them back if you don't want them after checking them out. You can look up the specs on the panasonic site, however I do know these are 3ccd chip cameras.
Actually I had to google the info for these cameras, couldn't find from panasonic.
Here's the info: WV-200 CLE , 3 interline 2/3"CCD, 250,000 pixel res.(650 lines res.), 3 position auto white balance, detail switch, s-vhs or ntsc composite, genlock.

Besides bstock here are some other web sites to look for used equipment:
www.tvprogear.com
www.usedvideo.net
www.systemassociates.com
www.broadcaststore.com

I think a little better communication response needs to occur with the short time frame that we have available. I am very disappointed with the lack of response on the last set of cameras which ended up selling for $576.00 which would have been excellent STARTER units. Anyways lets push forward and get this done.
Dave B.

some equipment research from Dave B

Here's the product I found at Adorama.com:
Canon XL2 MiniDV Camcorder, 20X Optical Zoom Lens, Advanced Optical Image Stabilizer, 1/3-Inch 3-CCD Widescreen with 24P Recording
camera 2, they have a used one available for $3149.00 Not an HD unit, but do we need HD? By the end of the evening, we were in two teams.

The first was working on equipment specs. Two of those three options are viable.
Scott, Dave, Brent, Bill

The second group started working on "The Look".
